CHALLENGE
Whirlpool needed a way to train employees on evaluating early-stage product concepts before they reach engineering, walking through real-world tradeoffs like manufacturing cost, material selection, and application cost rather than just presenting information.
ROLE & PROCESS
A hypothetical product scenario around a new appliance concept: a garage-mounted grocery drop-off unit with separate warm and cool storage zones. Working closely with the client, I laid out the flow trainees moved through, guiding them from concept through manufacturing cost, material choices, and application cost considerations, turning an abstract evaluation process into a hands-on decision path.
IMPACT
The scenario gave Whirlpool a repeatable framework for training staff on product thinking, grounding cost and material tradeoffs in a concept concrete enough to reason through but hypothetical enough to carry no real product risk.
